Hyundai has been quite busy of late, with the introduction of new models and powertrain options. So it's not surprising that Hyundai is also adding a hybrid, turbocharged electric, and plug-in model to its Kona lineup.
The plug-in and turbocharged electric powertrains for the Kona will be available in three and four-wheel drive variants, respectively. The third powertrain option is a 1.6 T-GDI petrol engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. With this move, Hyundai is one of the first carmakers in the world to offer a plug-in electric vehicle, a hybrid, and sports-oriented petrol turbocharged all under one roof. It's a bold move and one that looks to be paying off, as has been shown by the long waiting lists for both the Hyundai Kona Electric and the Ioniq.
As the Kona Active is based on the new-generation platform of the standard model, it will also benefit from the more efficient chassis. Combined with the lower weight of its MHEV powertrain, if these specs are anything to go by, it should show some impressive fuel economy numbers.
