If you’re feeling left out by the standard inclusion of new Hyundai Sonata CarPlay features, there’s good news for you: Hyundai has just announced that owners of specific Hyundai vehicles with navigation have the ability to update their vehicles to Sonata CarPlay compatibility using a free download. If you have a compatible vehicle, the VIN number, and a USB stick or your navigation system SD card, then you can get the update.

This Hyundai Sonata CarPlay update affects 2015 and 2016 Sonata models with navigation included in the trim. The update takes anywhere from one to three hours to download from the computer and 40 minutes to upload inside the vehicle. 2016 Sonata models with the seven-inch touchscreen display may be able to download in less than 30 minutes and upload in about 20. Instructional videos should soon be available, but for now, car owners can find instructions on Hyundai’s web site.

This new update comes just in time to increase the tech appeal of existing Sonata models, even increasing the value in many cases. Whether you own an older Sonata or are looking to purchase Certified Pre-Owned, you can get the CarPlay feature without having to purchase the newest model. If you don’t want to download the update, Billingsley Hyundai and other dealerships can install it for a fee starting in June. Contact us to learn more.
